do what you're told
Drive-by update, pretty much literally so you all know we aren't dead: As of last night, I am home very briefly - just long enough to see kyrryn and chia_rhino and mr_co before running off to Indiana for New Year's. We leave EARLY tomorrow morning, and I probably won't update much while I'm there. But we'll see a lot of you really soon! Now for the real purpose of this update: Interest check for a game of Twilight Imperium on Sunday, January 3, starting late morning and going 'til it's done. Noel's mom gave our household the game for Christmas and we're pretty much falling all over ourselves in our eagerness to play. We need 3-6 people to make it happen. Let me know if a 4-6 hour long board game of space battles, empire building, and backstabbery sounds like your kind of thing... Current Mood: relaxedCurrent Music: Guster - Two at a Time |

Fun afternoon
I spent a few hours with the fam this afternoon/evening. We hit up the mall for a few after Christmas sales. I got a bunch of stuff at Bath & Body Works and then picked up a few books at the Borders Express (formerly Waldenbooks) where I used to work. And found out the store is closing :( That made me sad. On the upside, everyone was 30% off. I'll have to go out there when I have a little more time and pick up more stuff on sale. Then we headed down to the Carnegie Science Center to see the Holiday Magic laser show and the Great Lakes IMAX film. I learned more about the reproductive habits of sturgeons than I ever cared to know. Now I am home and going to spend some time catching up on rp tags and chatting with friends. Tomorrow will be a lazy at home day watching Sanctuary with the roomie. |

Today was very snowy and cold. Sister H liked this a lot, but I'm not quite as pleased. Winter isn't exactly my favourite season - or well, at least not when I have to be outside. Mum got a cell phone for Jul, but she'll have to pick a model herself. After looking through the selection at one of the local electronics stores, she's more confused than before, and has no idea which to select. I'm aiming at making her job even harder, by letting her see even more different models. One of these days. If I can stomach going for that sort of walk in the cold and snow. (I've been out already, so no need to send evil glares my way. I just.. don't like it very much) Well, it's back to X-com: TFFD for me; I'm currently on way way out from my first alien base. I've destroyed the control room and only need to escape to gain my sweet sweet experience, but the damn surviving aliens are making this tough for me by killing of my crew. I naturally can't stand this behaviour and have to reload and reload and fucking reload... gaaah. Current Mood: amused |

holiday wrapup
Things went mostly well this holiday for me, so that is a good thing! Everyone seemed to enjoy the presents I got them, which makes me super happy. I got some nice stuff too. A couple of books (Once Dead, Twice Shy by Kim Harrison and Belinda by Anne Rice), some DVDs (Sanctuary S1, Bones S4, The Wizard of Oz, and Once Upon a Mattress), a Target gift card, a cool purple shirt, a couple of scarves and Vol 2 of the Glee soundtrack. We're hitting up some after Christmas sales this afternoon/evening when my mom is done with work. My roomie went out earlier to do the same but she left before I woke up. I'm still pretty well exhausted thanks to Mother Nature's wonderful Christmas present but oh well. Hope everyone is recovering nicely from the holidays and enjoying their weekends! |

Spring Semester...
I'm excited to Belly Dance again! I couldn't wait for the Summer because it's been so long. I'll still take it in the Summer though. I have lots of outlets now for exercise that I don't have a monthly fee for. DDR, Wii-Fit Plus, Belly Dancing, and My Fitness Coach (Wii) Yay! Merry Christmas my Live Journal friends! a holiday update
Happy (late) Solstice and merry (current) Christmas! This year has been weird because of the weather being so bad. I came to Wisconsin on Tuesday, before the snowpocalypse, but dayzdark had to wait until Christmas Eve because of work and so couldn't make it over because of how bad the roads were. It's been kind of weird not having him around, but at least we will get to spend a bunch of time together and with his family at New Year's next week. I'm returning to Minnesota tomorrow and leaving for Indiana early Monday morning, so I ought to be able to get together with chia_rhino and mr_co and kyrrn in plenty of time before that, too. Then party time, yay! Otherwise I have been sleeping very late, drinking lots of beer, watching lots of TV, and making serious progress on preparing for my Hunter: The Vigil game - all of which are very good things. Looks like it's time for me to make krumkake with my mom now. I'll see a lot of you very soon! This entry was originally posted at http://gamerchick.dreamwidth.org/535497.html. Right, a lot of you guys actually celebrate today, and not yesterday. Happy holidays to you all! I've been doing mostly nothing today. Got some reading done, and I've also picked up "The world ends with you" again - last time I played was around this time last year. I've also played "X-com: Terror from the deep", which is a bit harder (difficulty-wise) than I remembered. Not today though, since sis hogged the only good place where you can use the laptop without getting too cramped up from the uncomfortable position. I guess it is back to the DS for me. I hope you all are enjoying these days, however you decide to spend them. |

Hi
So yesterday I was so burnt out that I went home early and slept through most of the day. Lol, what. And then Christmas came in a flood of mostly happiness and some drama involving eggnog. Again, what. Everyone spent more money on me than I spent on them. *angst* Especially Terry. He got me a digital camera and I fucking got him a blanket. *more angst* I got the_flowergirl's card a couple of days ago, and angelchan_2004's card yesterday (<3333 the picture kslghsdkh). I have been carded. And suddenly yesterday I remembered that I, too, was supposed to send cards this year. Oh, fuck. Now I'm awake and still burnt out. Pictures of Christmas later (aahaha, expect many pictures now). Merry Day of Presents! Current Mood: hungry |

AVATAR
No spoilers here other than to say what lots of people have been saying already. Nothing really given away with this review but read at your own risk. I loved "Avatar". I thought it was a fantastic movie. Before this, I had heard mixed reviews on the story but everyone agreed that visually, it was an amazing movie. I was supposed to go with Steph but she was not feeling well again, feverish with a head cold. I stopped over at her place because I had presents for her and she for me. She got me this awesome silvery, holographic unicorn picture. It is really beautiful! However, since I am basically booked for most of the weekend, I did not want to wait much longer to see the movie. So I decided to go on my own. I would have liked to have seen it at the IMAX but I wasn't going all the way to Neshaminy or King of Prussia for that. Saw it in 3D though. Wow, just wow. The scenery was absolutely spectacular. The CGI is truly phenomenal and you could almost believe that the aliens were real right in front of you. Not like the very crappy CGI in "New Moon" where the werewolves were so obviously fake. They went above and beyond with this. All the money they spent to make it like that was worth it. As for the story, I can definitely see how people compare it to a cross between "Dances with Wolves" and "Fern Gully". However, since I loved both those movies, the story in this really touched me. I admit to tearing up in certain spots. By the end, I was invested in the good guys, rooting for them to kill the crap out of the bad guys (who were most of the humans. Gosh, another movie making me dislike humanity more and more. Why does greed make people so evil?) It must have really stuck in my head because I was having Avatar dreams last night too. Today I am probably seeing "The Road", maybe with my Dad. Not advertised at all; I learned about it when looking at the movies coming out. It is a post-Apocolyptic movie starring Viggo Mortenson. |

Merry Christmas
To all of you celebrating today, I hope you have a lovely and safe day. It's currently raining here. And the temperature is hovering near freezing. How fantastic, right? I also got the most fabulous Christmas present from Mother Nature *grumps*. On the up side, Christmas #1 was fun last night, the kiddies are adorable and my mom cried when we gave her her Christmas present (a portrait of me, my brother and sister). Also, I put a turkey breast in my crockpot last night for tonight's dinner and it smells AMAZING. I need to get my ass in gear for Christmas #2, which is in about two hours. And then Christmas #3 is around 4. Having a big family makes the holidays interesting. |

I got something great for Christmas...
We decided last night, mom, Christine, and I to open all our presents. Everyone was happy and we had our second Christmas together as a surrogate family lolz (Big Bang Theory joke). Mom got her fourth season of bones on DVD so now she is all caught up. Also she has the second book that was made for the show. Christine got pajamas, earings and a necklace, woodstock in a soup bowl with candy, snoopy ceramic coffee mug with the saying on it "curse these early morning hours", and I think that's it. I wound up with a pair of pajamas, a sterling silver jade necklace with some chinese characters on it. I will go down to china inn and see if I can get it translated. Mom thought it was japanese. I also got Buffy season 4 on DVD woo hoo! Now I have 1-4! Excitement abounds! Also the best was saved for last when I opened the biggest box which had a Wii Fit!!!! Whoooooooooo!!!! I just tried it this morning and it is really cool and funny. I weighed myself on my kitchen scale first to make sure it would work right. So the kitchen weighed me in at 295 lbs today...SQUEE! Then while doing my little test on the Wii Fit it said I was 293.9 lbs. lolz! Close enough. I can't complain. The first thing I tried was the kung fu...which didn't go so well. I blame the Wii mote. Anyway, the running, boxing, and breathing yoga exercises were excellent. I also tried some balance games and I played with it for around about thirty minutes, half fiddling with the set up of it all and the other half actually exercising. I can also weigh my pets! I think I'll try weighing Suki and Kita. Oh it also has a two player run which all you do is put the Wii mote in your pocket. You run in place so there would be plenty room for me and someone else to do that. I also made a goal on the Wii Fit to lose three lbs. in two weeks. I weigh in again on January 7th, 2010. it's beginning to look a lot like christmas
I have most of my gifts wrapped now. My dining room is a total mess. I still need to bake my ready-to-bake cookies and put my holiday baskets together. That shouldn't take long though. I also need to make dip for tonight. Why oh why am I such a slacker? My roomie's guinea pig died last night. She found her this morning :( Mango was around five, which is the upper end of life expectancy for a pig, but it still sucks. Other things that suck: my cousin's wife lost her job yesterday. Who does that? Way to ruin the holiday season. But! I am going to try to focus on the happy things and look forward to spending time with my family. Tonight should be crazy awesome fun with all the little ones (my cousins have ten kids between them - aged four months to eight years). I hope you all have a wonderful holiday celebration (or had, if your holiday has passed). Be safe! |

Hey
Holidays are gonna hit me very badly tomorrow morning, so I won't be online for several days. So I just wanted to drop a line and wish everyone a happy whatever the fuck you celebrate in case I miss it. Which I probably will. Because life is getting in my way of having an internet addiction again. Also, will finish meme requests when the holidays are dead. Have not forgotten. Barely got out that fic yesterday. Bye and stuff. Current Mood: exhausted |

Animals on my Mind
So two animals on my mind today. Yesterday I got off work somewhat early so it was still light out as I was driving home. I go through some very back roads outside of Newtown and see a lot of wild life. Lots of deer, some foxes, an occasional possum. As I was driving, I saw an animal run across the road and I thought it was a brown dog at first. When I got closer, I relaized it was a fox but he looked awful. He had barely any red fur left on him. I think he had sarcoptic mange and all his fur had fallen off. He was also limping. I wanted to jump out and rescue him but he'd have none of it. I was having daydreams of finding him again and throwing a bunch of Heartgard meat-flavored meds at him (they have Ivermectin, which is used to treat mange). Poor thing. The other animal occupying my mind is a little cat who came to me half dead today. She was left in a carrier in front of PetSmart. There was a note saying she was a nice cat and needed a home. Now, it is pretty freezing outside and nobody knows how long she was sitting out there for. When she got to me, she was barely moving and I could not even get a temperature to register on the thermometer. She was so thin that there was no body fat to protect her from the cold. I immediately went to warming her up including heating pads, heat lamp and warm SQ fluids (no veins for an IV catheter). First temp I was able to get to register was 91.0, which means she had been even lower than that. Not compatible with life. Continued to warm her and the next temp was 96.4. Better but still not normal for a cat (100.0 to 102.5 normally). Gave her some oral Dextrose (basically sugar water) to give her a little boast. Last temp I got was 101.0. Whoo hoo! She looks so much better, holding her head up and even got up to walk around. We gave her some canned food, which she wolfed down like there was no tomorrow. Of course, we apparently woke the fleas up also since they started moving around again. I am going to keep her until tomorrow. Such a cutie, just purring and loving laying on the heating pad. The store worker who found her and brought her here also decided to adopt her so she even got a home! |

Why?
So against my better judgment, I picked up a Yuletide pinch hit. The story is about half done. I haven't finished it because I STILL haven't received the AO3 account creation code I was supposed to get when I agreed to do the pinch hit and I figure there is no point in finishing a story that I won't be able to post. Which sucks, but hey, what else am I supposed to do? I wish they hadn't moved Yuletide. It seems like it's done nothing but cause problems. |

This apartment is so damn cold :( I'm wearing extra socks and long johns under my jeans (which is slightly uncomfortable, since the jeans are quite tight) Well, now the entire family is here. Sister H will only stay until, uh, Sunday? and will then spend New Year's with her boyfriend and his friends. I suppose I can allow that, after all he lives in Canada now and she doesn't get to see him very much. She and V-chan are currently playing Mario Kart Double Dash and if there'd been another gamepad I would've joined in too. As it is, I think I'll pick up my DS and maybe I'll even finish one of those games I've been playing forever before the end of the year. Mum and I took a bus to.. almost the other side of town today, to pick up sis' jul gift. Funny how they decided to make us pick it up there, instead of at the grocery store 10 minutes' walk from here. We've had a ham sandwich each and, well, I just want to hand out my gifts and get it over with XD but I guess I'll have to wait until tomorrow. |

REAL vampires...
I have an appointment today with the vampires. This means it's time for my blood work for my diabetic check up. Let's hope it didn't get any worse. I want to hope it's even better. I am so hungry right now because I have to fast for twelve hours. GOD, I am so hungry. I need breakfast. T_T Still love that DDR cow! I'm going to prove you can lose weight by playing DDR. I'm not talking about five to ten pounds. I am thinking more like at least fourty to fifty pounds. Because I want to prove a point that it can be done. Of course with any exercise routine you have to have a sensible diet. I will be a lot more strict AFTER the holidays. Meaning I'm still watching what I'm eating, but I'll be more strict on January 4th when I go back to work. On today's agenda... Finish up laundry quickly Get blood sucked out and drained from me Get breakfast Play DDR Play Star Ocean: First Departure on PSP Study Geometry Open presents with Christine before she takes off for home and last but not least... write in my physical journal (you know the kind that has actual paper and you take a pen and write in it instead of using a blog or a computer...lolz) yeah that should do it. Not in that exact order, but yeah... - Saiyu Current Mood: hungryCurrent Music: N/A |

I have safely arrived in Falun, on a train that was amazingly only 20 minutes late. That's almost exemplary, for the Stockholm-Falun train that is. Sis, coming up from Gothenburg, got the fantastic news that she had to go by bus most of the way instead. She still hasn't arrived and I have no clue when she will. The bus apparently just left Sala, which isn't obviously on the way from Gothenburg to here :| Youngest sis and I have "entertained" ourselves by watching a horrible movie, Surviving Christmas (and we barely survived it. eugh. romantic comedies) well, I guess that's it.
