Years ago I made the observation that women w/ weight issues seemed to have anger problems. I took a lot of flack for this from the "you can't make judgments about people from the way they look" crowd, but it would seem that I've been vindicated (at least slightly). Apparently a study has found that pear-shaped women deal better with stress .This is linked to higher levels of cortisol, a chemical which helps with stress but also builds fat deposits around the waist. Being a pear doesn't go hand in hand with being fat or anorexic, and difficulty dealing with stress doesn't turn you into powder keg, but it's a hint that I might have been onto something with my observations.

Strengthened in 1878 by the Posse Comitatus Act, these laws have guaranteed that the federal government could not use the military for domestic law enforcement purposes.

Without such protection, the federal government could use the might of our army to violate state and individual rights. Moreover, minor incursions by the military into domestic law enforcement activity could lay the foundation for the imposition of martial law at a moment’s notice. This is one slippery slope we don’t want to start sliding down.

That is why we should all be deeply disturbed by the news that President Bush has assigned the 3rd Infantry Division’s 1st Brigade Combat Team to be under the day-to-day control of U.S. Army North, the Army component of Northern Command (NorthCom). According to an article in Army Times, the soldiers could be called upon for a variety of tasks, including quelling “civil unrest.” They are apparently engaged in training with shields and batons, beanbag bullets, and Tasers.

We need to raise awareness about this threat to our liberty immediately. The American Freedom Campaign believes the best method available at the moment is to send an email to the hosts of the next two presidential debates, urging them to ask the candidates whether they would fully enforce the Posse Comitatus Act.

Please join us in this effort by filling out the information below and clicking on “Send My Message.”

She's an awesome character but I liked her better when she wasn't as frequently used.

<dfn>Buffy Summers</dfn>: Spent too much time wishing she were normal, sleeping with the enemy and being screwed up (but fronting to keep other people from finding out) for my tastes.

<dfn>Baggins, Frodo </dfn>: Perhaps I am the only geek who has not read or seen the entrie LotR trilogy? But I saw the Fellowship, and Frodo Baggins seems to me to be the most unlikely and undeserving hero ever. His big thing is that he travels with a bunch of bigger and stronger people who protect him, and that he .. wears a ring? I don't care that it's jewelry. Green Lanterns wear rings but they're big powerful weapon rings that can do almost anything. Frodo's ring turns him invisible. The only downside being that it has a built in homing device/corruptioneque power thing. It's a drug, and Frodo's main strength is... he's... less addicted than he otherwise could be? This is the best Tolkien could come up with? Couldn't the fellowship have just put the ring on some poor sap, knocked the guy unconcious with a sidderent sap, tied him up and carried hm in a sack? And Random Unconscious Dude would have been better than Frodo, because in the FotR Frodo did wear the ring and did clue the Big Bad on to his position. Unconscious dude, with his hands tied, wouldn't have been able to do either. So, yeah, I'm not really wowed by Frodo.

<dfn>Belle</dfn>: How could anyone dislike Belle from Disney's Beauty and the Beast? She's a beautiful, smart, willful, sexy - the perfect girlfriend by many estimations. Stuck in a town that doesn't understand her, and sort of kidnapped by a monster in a castle, she's the ultimate damsel in distress. Well until they fall in love and her regains his humanity. But for most of the movie, Belle's hot and unattached. Just one thing... isn't she sort of a Mary Sue? She's too perfect. Any flaws she has and any challenges she faces just make her more sympathetic. Why don't more people see this? Why do people seem to think that she's the best Princess Disney has to offer? Snow White had her passivity, Jasimine had her stand-offishness and gullibility, and Ariel was dumbly naive. Those are legit flaws. What's Belle's flaw? Does she have any?

You are a member of the ruling class in Roman society. Using your exceptional Latin skills you debate policy and vote in the interests of the people on important matters of state. You are a powerful individual, and your words catch the ear of the upper-class as well as your peers in the senate. Like all senators, you are ambitious. Hence, being a mere senator is not enough for you...

Take The Latin sayings Test at HelloQuizzy
